How to play Shithead
Shithead (also called Karma or Palace) is a shedding game for 2–5 players. Get rid of all your cards before anyone else. The last player holding cards is the shithead.
Setup
Each player gets nine cards in three rows:
- 3 face-down table cards (you can't look at them).
- 3 face-up table cards on top of them (visible to everyone).
- 3 in your hand.
Before play starts, you may swap any hand cards with your face-up table cards. The rest of the deck is the draw pile.
A turn
On your turn, play a card equal to or higher than the top of the discard pile. You may play multiple cards of the same rank at once. Then draw back up to 3 hand cards (until the draw pile runs out).
If you can't play, you pick up the entire discard pile into your hand.
Special ranks
- 2 — resets the pile; the next play can be any card.
- 7 — the next player must play 7 or lower.
- 8 — skips the next player.
- 10 — burns the pile (discarded out of play); same player goes again.
- Four of a kind in the discard pile (in a row) also burns it.
Playing from the table
Once your hand and the draw pile are empty, you play from your face-up table cards. Once those are gone, you play your face-down cards blind — if a face-down card can't legally be played, you pick up the pile plus that card.
Winning
The first player to clear all nine of their cards is out. Play continues until only one player remains — that player is the shithead.
